The CUHK Open Innovation Lab (OIL) is a student-run club which serves as the hub for advancing the movement of open source, open data, open culture and technology entrepreneurship among the students, alumnus and friends of the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). OIL regularly hosts technical meetups, seminars and workshops during term time with invited speakers from the local industry, open-source community and CUHK. Meetup topics range from open-source technologies, emerging software-development tools, to career path sharing by ICT professionals. A sample of recent topics include: NFC hacking, Bitcoin, Blockchains and Smart Contracts, Algorithmic Trading Strategy and System Design, and the Mathematics behind the Rubik’s Cube. OIL also organizes or coordinates its members to participate in events like Hackathon, Bootcamps and Capture-The-Flag (CTF) competitions. OIL participants are mainly CUHK undergraduate and graduate students from different majors, alumnus as well as guests and friends from the industry and other universities.
